Thanksgiving Traditions and Tablescapes

Its almost here, friends…turkey day! Thanksgiving Day is one of, if not my absolute favorite day of the year. For my family, it is filled with longstanding traditions and honestly, it is just full of fun and togetherness and little to none of the stress that typically comes with the holiday season.

One of our traditions is heading downtown for the Troy Turkey Trot. For as long as I can remember, my family has all gone to the turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning, bright and early. Some of us are runners and others of us are cheerleaders, but either way we are all together to kick off the day. We see many who we run into all the time, many who we haven’t seen in years and many who we only see once a year on Thanksgiving Day…consider it a high school reunion of sorts.  From there, we head to our favorite local hangout where we drink beer, watch more of the races and spend a few hours catching up with everyone (and its for a good cause as money collected goes to a local shelter in Troy). When noon hits (that’s our curfew 😉), everyone heads home to freshen up before coming to my house for the afternoon, which brings me to my other favorite tradition of the day!

Every year, mid to late summer, I start thinking about my Thanksgiving tablescape. I love me some turkey and masked potatoes, but I love me a beautiful table to look at even more! Its become such a thing with my family…all wondering what the “annual Thanksgiving table” will look like and as the day gets closer, they all start asking for hints. The only answer they get is that “I never do exactly the same thing twice” and “No, I will not tell you the color(s)”!  I’ve been asked why I start thinking about a Thanksgiving table so early and its really for two reasons: 1) I usually have at least 15 for dinner and so coming up with an idea that works for that many people can sometimes be challenging and 2) I need to take stock on what I have on-hand already and what I need to order (again, usually need at least 15 of something).  If I have to purchase anything, it also means I MUST stick to it and not change my mind a few hundred times, which I have been guilty of now and then 😊.  But really, I am just a planner – whether for an event, a gift, a room design or a tablescape….I like to think about it for a bit!

For this Thanksgiving, while I have a few centerpieces around the house that show all the traditional fall colors of deep oranges, reds and yellows (photo shared), I essentially ditched the fall palette for my table. I went with my tried and true, my loyal bestie…all hail, NAVY BLUE! Navy with cream and gold is always gorgeous in my book, but when you add in some natural tone pieces and greenery, well my friends….its just SO SO GOOD! Classic and crisp, yet warm and inviting…everyone will be dying to get their seat at the table and it won’t just be because of the meal!

Everything shown, except for the dinner plates and two gold pumpkins at the heads of the tables, was purchased on Amazon and came in less than $200.  Another good thing, this tablescape would work for Christmas too and all the pieces on their own can be repurposed in many other décor designs around the home!

This is a list of all of the items and where you can find them on Amazon. If you click on any of the links I will receive a small commission. Here is what I used:
