If You’re Lucky Enough to be Irish…

Best of the morning to you, friends! It’s March and that means that the second best day of the year (do you know what I consider the first best day?!) is right around the corner and after two years of not being able to do many of the normal St. Patrick’s Day traditions with my crew, I am ready to do ALL the things! Whether its a corned beef dinner at home, out enjoying the parades and pub crowds or maybe its a work/school celebration, this post provides a few ideas on how to do it all in style.

Let’s talk dinner-in first…you know I’m dreaming up the prettiest of tablescapes, right?! While I know St. Pat’s is really about the bright, kelly green shades, I have a much more muted table setting planned this year. I’m waiting for all my pieces to get here and I promise to post pictures on the gram (follow at shelleyb.style) showing how I put them all together once they arrive, but dream with me for a few minutes here. Start with a placement or charger (make sure your charger is bigger than your dinner plate so that you have at least a one inch border showing) that adds warmth to the table such as this one and then top with an ivory (or white) dinner plate. From there, select your dinner napkin; I ordered these ivory linen napkins as well as these olive green napkins because I plan to use them both and hold them together with a napkin ring that adds a little bit of the Irish greens to it like this one. To finish the look, I’ll use my gold flatware and I may add this green glassware, which would work well as a pint glass for my beer or this green set and some florals as a center piece.

Now, if you’re having a house party or maybe an office/school party, this party package may fit the bill. It comes with a tablecloth, plates, cups, napkins and a cute shamrock banner for some additional decor. The best part…the party is over and voila, all clean because this set was disposable and went right to the garbage - woot, woot! I also like these plastic cups, these banners and this pom pom garland to use for an in-house party. I would take the pom pom garland and put it in between the two banners for cute decor in the room.

So, you’ve got all the fixings for a great looking table and cute party decor and now…what will you wear?! I need three outfits to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year…one for work, one for Shelley’s Shamrock Stroll around the local pubs and a house party so I put together some of my favorite finds that might work for you too.

Work, work and more work. St. Patrick’s Day should really fall on a Saturday every year (the reason is obvious…so much food prepping, right? All of you thinking hangover, c’mon…you know I never get overserved-lol). But alas, this year we celebrate on a Thursday and I need a professional, but still celebratory look. I am going with a green cardigan (another option here) and this headband for a bit of fun in the office. I LOVE headbands like this and my colleagues are used to seeing me in them on a holiday - they are easy and fun! I can also repurpose the headband during Shelley’s Shamrock Stroll as it would go with this sweatshirt (mens option here) that I am considering wearing. I live in upstate NY and its usually still chilly so until I can “feel no pain” on the pub crawl, I must be warm! If its a bit on the warmer side, I’ll wear a puffer vest and finish the look with these sneakers or maybe these. A girl’s gotta be comfy for day drinking, people!

Now all of these options can be worn for the house party you throw or go to, but if you want to dress it up like I might do, this green sweatshirt (I love that its dressy, but still comfy and I could wear this to work with the right bottoms and accessories) is a cute choice or I might keep it more casual and in the spirit of the day with this off the shoulder sweatshirt and a tank underneath. Obviously these are more conservative outfit choices and there are plenty of funny/more themed options out there, but I’ll save the “kiss me I’m Irish” for another year or maybe I have something up my sleeve that I am waiting to share!!

So, the countdown is on, cairde! Stay tuned to see my table setting come to life and while you wait, have a pint and enjoy some photos of past St. Patrick’s Day fun below (you may spot one of my fun headbands)! Slainte, ShelleyB.
