How Many Is Too Many? Asking for a Friend!

Did you read my last blog or see any of my posts on social? If you did, you saw that I put six trees up throughout the house this year! I (and you) may have questioned my sanity along the way, but I am loving how they have each brightened up the spaces they are in and also brought me peace. Many find decorating every day spaces, let alone six trees for the holidays, difficult and more like a task, but its where I find opportunities to be creative and decompress, let go of the everyday stresses (are you questioning my sanity again J) and just enjoy the process.

One of the first trees I decorated this year was a small pencil tree in my dining room. If you saw my IG post on November 29th, I highlighted two things: 1) where I purchased the garland and 2) how it had a sentimental meaning for me. The dining room tree has garland that reads Happy Holidays. I was surfing the internet looking for something else, when I came across The Little Market website and this garland. I know its different and not for everyone, but between the story behind The Little Market and the fond memories I have of Andy Williams’ Happy Holidays, I had to get it. I didn’t intend to use it around a tree, but when the single strand arrived and I gave it more thought, I ordered three more and on the tree it went.

I shared the story of The Little Market in that same post, but here is the website if you’d like to check them out, which I recommend! As far as “Happy Holidays”, well…its actually really simple. Every year we had Christmas dinner at my grandparent’s house which was a two family home in Troy. My grandparents were on the first floor and my great aunt and uncle were on the second floor and the day started with a competition of who arrived at the house first (this may not have been my most favorite part as I was woken up WAY TOO EARLY for this) and honestly, the day was just pure chaos. Chaos being 25 us of crammed into a small flat opening gifts, sitting on top of one another and talking loud to be heard and perhaps getting ever so slightly annoyed at someone, or something because…well, just because…and whenever that little bit of holiday stress seemed front and center, someone would start singing Happy Holidays (maybe with a slightly sarcastic tone) and we’d quickly forget about the annoyance and start laughing or all join in singing. But the best was actually at the dinner table (three folding tables long), after all the gifts were opened, dinner was done and we were just sitting telling stories, reminiscing and Happy Holidays would come on the radio and we’d sing it simply because we were all together and enjoying the time. While family members have passed and traditions have changed, I decided I could keep a little piece of the memories alive with Happy Holidays in my dining room and this year, when I sit down for holiday dinner, I will hear Andy Williams’ playing even if only in my mind as I peek over at the garland (and miss the chaos).

Photos of all my Christmas trees are here along with links for the trimmings I used.  Various textures such as rattan in the stars hanging on one tree or used as a topper on another. Gold beads, smooth or glittered ornaments and some ornamental tree picks were used to enhance the greenery and soft white lights with other trees. Most items came from Amazon, but some came from Target or Walmart. If you click on one of the Amazon links and purchase something, I will receive a small commission.

Because I decorate quite a few trees and because I like them to be different every year, I don’t splurge on most of the trimmings. If you are going to splurge, I would suggest spending the money on something you know that will become a staple and used every year or if you like to change things up, maybe splurge on neutral items that could work with changing themes.  Hopefully something you see inspires you or helps you with ideas for when you are decorating your trees, but if not, you know where to find me for help!
